whilst I know I want a career in photography, I don't yet know what type of photography want to specialise in. I have therefore decided to do ongoing research throughout my HNC course into the different types of photography careers to try and find out what I want to do after finishing my photography course. I also think it will be useful to know as they I can start and look for relevant work experience and build a photography CV.
Careers that interest me and I want to look into:
Wedding photography
Fashion photography
Wedding photography:

What appeals to me about wedding photography is that I enjoy landscapes and like to be outdoors and wedding photography often involves this. I also like the fact that every shoot will be different rather than just going to do the same thing everyday.
Requirements:
Own equipment
Own transport
Good communication skills as will constantly be working with new people
Creativity, don't want all clients photos looking the same
Wedding portfolio
Things I need to do now if wanting a career in wedding photography:
Start saving and set aside money that I can use to buy equipment I will need
Develop communication skills, get better at approaching people I don't know to build confidence.
Look for work experience that I can complete over summer
Practice posing people in the studio in order to get more confidence in directing models.
Fashion Photography:

What I like about fashion photography is getting to work in both the studio and on location. I also like how it is very creative and this is something I want to have in my career, I want to be able to be creative as oppose to just taking head shots everyday. A further thing that appeal to me about fashion photography is that often fashion photographers can work for a company or magazine, II like the idea of this as when I finish my course, I don't want to be a freelance photographer straight away so something like being a photographer for a company would be ideal for me.
Requirements:
Good communication skills as will be working with stylists, models and assistants.
Digital skills as often fashion images are edited to give special effects so knowledge of light room and Photoshop is needed.
Creativity but also the ability to keep within the specifications of the client or company.
Be able to direct and position models so that the clothing is shown off.
Things I need to do now if I want a career in Fashion photography:
Practice posing people in the studio and look at fashion images for inspiration so that I am more confident in doing this.
Learn how to use Photoshop better, watch YouTube tutorials to learn how to gain certain effects on images.
Start practising small fashion shoots in the studio to work up towards building a fashion portfolio.
