Today one of my peers form the HND photography course came in to talk about the 'My town Photography competition' as he was the 2018 Winner with his image "Do not feed the gulls.'

He explained that he discovered the competition by seeing the previous winner's image on a electronic advertisement screen in town and when looking it up online he was attracted by the fact that it was free so submitted 10 images.

He explained that when he submitted the images he didn't expect anything to come from it but after he ended up winning he gained multiple opportunities from it such as being invited to judge next years competition. He used this as an example to show that even if you don't except your images to to that well it is always a valuable experience to enter photography competitions as you never know what opportunities and exposure can come from it.

He then went to talk about his image and how it was by pure coincidence that the sea gull flew into his shot whilst he was talking a photo of the man in the background. However, he is always out in Liverpool capturing street photography and that's how he captures moments like this, by being out and about in the first place.

This demonstrates to me how beneficial it is to get out and about with camera as not only will it help me to improve my camera skills and creativity, it also increases my chances of capturing unique and original moments, making my work stand out against others.
