After researching photography competitions I came across one called Minimalist works. I came across this competition on Instagram and I liked the look of the entries I saw on their feed. I want to enter this competition as I think it is a bit out of my comfort zone as I have never really attempted to capture minimalist scenes before and therefore I think this competition will challenge me and push me to develop my composition and creativity skills.

The competition is looking for photos to put in their exhibition. The exhibition will be held in Brighton at Sixty Eight Middle Street, in their Auditorium, on Friday 19 April 2019 from 11 AM to 5 PM.

I think entering this competition will be very beneficial to me as if my images are selected for the exhibition, it would showcase my work to a wider audience and going to the exhibition would allow me to network and meet other people within this creative industry. Getting my images put in an exhibition would also be good to put on my photography CV.

This is what attracted me to this competition as most of the ones I saw had prizes such as money or cameras, but for this one its getting your work in an exhibition which I think will be more beneficial towards my development as a photographer.

For the competition I have decided to submit the following images as I think they follow the theme of minimalist and they are images I would be happy to showcase to others.

I decided to enter nine images as having more images entered gives me a larger chance of getting selected for the exhibition. I decided to include a wide range of images in order to appeal to the judges more as the theme of minimalist is quite broad so I wanted to ensure I included different interprets of minimalist in order to try and appeal to the taste of who ever is selecting the images.

After sending my images I received a confirmation email explaining that they will be in touch after all the entries have been reviewed.

I hope I am successful in this competition as I would love the opportunity to have my work exhibited in an exhibition as I think it will be very beneficial for my career. This is why in my opinion, photography competitions are so important as they expose your work to a wider audience and help you make connections with others.

In addition to entering this competition, I have also joined a page of Facebook called 'News and Star Camera Club'. This is run by a newspaper back where I live in the Lake District and each week they give its members a theme to photograph and the best shots will be selected to have printed in the paper.

I think this will be beneficial for me as it will challenge me each week to come up with creative ideas for the theme and also just to get out and capture images within a short turnover time. The only thing that restricts me with this is that it is run by the paper back home in the Lakes and therefore the images need to be from there so I can't enter photos taken in Liverpool. However, this is something I am going to taken advantage of when going back home and over summer I want to aim to be entering images each week as if they are selected it will get my work seen by more people and could lead to further opportunities.

The theme for this week was silhouettes and I had some images I captured over the past few months that fit this theme so i have submitted the following images:

I think this is a really good thing to be a part of as it is a weekly competition which means that if I wasn't successful one week, I can try again in the next week. It gives me a much larger chance at getting my work published and also gives me motivation to get out with my camera and work on my development especially over the summer when I am not in college.
