Photovoice Opportunity

Earlier this week the visitors from the University of Liverpool who ran the photovoice competition about obesity came into college to announce the winner and explain about another opportunity they had coming up.

This opportunity was similar to the photovoice competition as we had to answer a question which this time was 'Why do/don't people go to the dentist?'. This time it was not a competition but wanted photos to be able to display and show to the public.

When thinking about this question, an answer immediately popped into my head and this was that a lot of people don't go to the dentist out of fear. I wanted to represent this in my photo as I think it this is something that affects a lot of people and I want people to be able to relate to my image.

In order to portray this, I wanted to capture the tools dentists use, as these are often what cause fear as they can look quite scary. This meant I had to go to a dentist and ask if I could take a few photos of there table with the tools on. I think this benefited me as often I am quite shy when it comes to approaching strangers and asking to take photographs. However, in order to get the photo I wanted it had to be done.

This is the image I sent to the University of Liverpool and I'm happy with how it turned out as I think it clearly demonstrates what point I am trying to make and hope my audience gets this as well.

Below is the email I sent to the University of Liverpool:

I think sending photos to opportunities like this benefits me as it helps to gt my work seen by a wider audience which is what I want. It also helps me to network and gain experience working and communicating with others which are vital skills needed in industry.
